COVID-19-Opportunities for Industry to Offer Solutions

Opportunities for Industry to Offer Solutions

*Please note that in many of the cases below, governments are not just seeking COVID-19 related products, but in some cases “out of the box solutions” or other products, so we encourage all our members to review the government requests.*

New PPE exchange in Ontario

The new, not‐for‐profit, web‐based platform, www.CovidPPEHelp.ca is designed to help overcome PPE challenges. It provides an easy‐to‐use tool for customers, suppliers, and potential donors to connect, enabling the direct information flow between demand and supply sources that is essential for effective matching of PPE. The main feature of the platform is the PPE Exchange that allows customers and suppliers to post the type, quantity, timing and location of their PPE product needs and offerings, respectively. Moreover, this information is visible to all participants in the supply chain. Such visibility supports the efficient matching of PPE among demand and supply sources. This information also helps potential local suppliers understand which supplies are most needed and where.

Federal: COVID-19 related products and services procurement (ongoing) + Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19

In support of the Government of Canada’s whole-of-government response to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), they are asking suppliers about their ability to provide a number of related products and services. There is a list of products that they’re seeking, but also provide an opportunity for companies to submit other products.

Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19

Additionally,  the Prime Minister announced, “Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19, which will create pathways to deploy resources to domestic manufacturers and businesses so they can help during this critical time.”

The Plan introduces new measures to directly support these businesses to rapidly scale up production or re-tool their manufacturing lines to develop products made in Canada that will help in the fight against COVID-19. These products could include critical health and safety supplies and equipment, including personal protective equipment, sanitization products, diagnostic and testing products, and disease tracking technology.

For more info about the plan, see the news release here and the backgrounder here.

Federal government seeking PPE donations

The federal government is requesting donations from corporations of excess PPE products.  These products will be provided to front-line healthcare workers to support them in fighting COVID-19.  If you have products to donate, and do not have an MDEL for Class I products, please contact Matthew Ryan at Health Canada at matthew.ryan@canada.ca.

Quebec Government Support for Medtech Suppliers

The Quebec government has called for medtech collaboration and proposes support for manufacturing. The announcement can be found here

Companies that need support to increase their production capacity or manufacturers that can quickly convert their infrastructure to meet demand for medical supplies, such as gloves, gowns, sanitizer and masks (see appended list for details) can play an important role in reducing the risk of medium- to long-term shortages. These companies are therefore invited to contact the Government at the following e-mail address about their interest in producing these items: jecontribue@economie.gouv.qc.ca.

Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) will invest $50 million in Supercluster funding to support companies as they rapidly respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by building a Canadian supply of essential equipment, products, and therapeutics.

Projects will be selected for funding according to critical needs identified by the Government of Canada and the ability of manufacturers to produce products that are safe for both patients and health care workers.

NGen will prioritize funding for projects that can have an immediate impact between April and the end of June 2020 and will fund eligible costs for projects within this timeframe up to 100% (depending on the level of knowledge and information sharing to help Canadians).

Projects that will have an impact in the medium term – beyond the June 30 timeframe may also be considered for funding at 50%. Projects are not expected to exceed funding of more than $5m.

We ask for your support to expand the reach of this program by leveraging your extensive networks.

  • Companies looking for support in launching production of critical products to fight COVID-19 can indicate their interest at www.ngen.ca/covid-19-response.

For more information on NGen’s COVID-19 Response Program, see the full bulletin , review the project guide , share your capabilities and follow us on Twitter @NGen_Canada for updates.
