Medtech Canada statement on the creation of the CAN Health Network

Toronto, July. 29, 2019 – Today, Medtech Canada issued the following statement from its President and CEO, Brian Lewis, in response to the Government of Canada’s announcement of the creation of the CAN Health Network.

“We are very pleased about the Trudeau government’s support for Canadian-based medical technology (medtech) companies through the creation of the CAN Health Network.

“Canada is home to many innovative medtech companies and too often Canadian patients haven’t benefitted from these innovations due to adoption barriers in our country’s health care system. Many of these barriers were addressed in the recommendations from the Health and Biosciences Economic Strategy Table and this announcement is aligned with those recommendations.

“This initiative not only offers pre-market development opportunities for companies, but also addresses procurement through its network, which has been an impediment to innovation adoption in Canada.

“The CAN Health Network offers a tremendous opportunity to begin to address these adoption barriers which will benefit Canadian patients through improved care, create efficiencies in our health care system and contribute to the growth of Canada’s world-class medtech sector.

“We look forward to supporting the Network in any way we can and helping to ensure its growth and expansion across Canada.

“Thank you to Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister Ng for your government’s support of the Canadian medical technology sector.”
