MEDEC welcomes announcement of Ontario’s Premier’s Council on Improving Health Care and Ending Hallway Medicine

Toronto, October 4, 2018 – MEDEC, the association representing Canada’s medical technology (MedTech) companies, welcomes the recent announcement from Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Christine Elliott on the appointment of members to the Premier’s Council on Improving Health Care and Ending Hallway Medicine.

"Premier Ford and Minister Elliott have chosen a highly distinguished and qualified group of leaders to serve on the Premier’s Council on Improving Health Care and Ending Hallway Medicine,” said Brian Lewis, President and CEO of MEDEC. “We look forward to engaging with the Council to help contribute to addressing this urgent issue.”

Led by Dr. Rueben Devlin, Special Advisor and Chair, 11 visionary health system leaders have come together to form the Premier's Council on Improving Healthcare and Ending Hallway Medicine (the Council). The Council will serve as an experienced and knowledgeable body to identify for the Premier of Ontario and the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care strategic priorities and actions that will lead to improved health and wellness outcomes for Ontarians, high patient satisfaction, and more efficient use of government investment, using an effective delivery structure.

“Medical technology can play a vitally important role in ending hallway medicine by enabling such things as reduced surgery times, better care coordination and more community care,” said Mr. Lewis. “However, Ontario has been a slow adopter of new technologies and we are eager to work with the Council and the Ford government to change that to ensure that Ontarians are receiving the best possible care and the health system is getting the most value.”
